Temecula's Mayor: Stop SDG&E's Golden Pacific Powerlink

Temecula Mayor Jessica Alexander has a message for the community: SDG&E's Golden Pacific Powerlink does not belong here.

SDG&E wants to run a 144-mile, 500,000-volt transmission line on steel towers up to 200 feet tall — roughly a 20-story building — straight through Temecula. The proposed route crosses Temecula Parkway and State Route 79 South, Temecula Creek, the Santa Margarita River, and Pechanga ancestral land.

None of that power is for us. The line is built to move electricity between the Imperial Valley, San Diego County, and the LA Basin. Temecula gets the fire risk, the evacuation-route problems, the property-value hit, and the permanent scar across our valley — and not one kilowatt of benefit.

Temecula is not SDG&E's extension cord.

The City is already on record

On May 26, 2026, the Temecula City Council voted unanimously, 5–0, to formally oppose this project. The Mayor's message in this video is that residents have to stand with them — because the California Public Utilities Commission, not the City, holds the decision, and SDG&E is expected to file its application before the end of 2026.

Public opposition on the record is what moves the CPUC. It worked here before: this community defeated the Valley-Rainbow Interconnect in 2002.
