1,000 People. $100 Each. Mark Winkler on Why Save Temecula Needs a Seat at the Table
Save Temecula President Mark Winkler has a simple ask: 1,000 people, $100 each, $100,000 raised.
SDG&E plans to run 200-foot-high power lines straight through Temecula, exposing our community to serious public safety risks and devastating economic impacts. To fight back, Save Temecula must secure legal standing at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), known as Party Status, so we can make formal arguments and present our case directly on behalf of the community.
What the money is for
The CPUC decides this project on the formal administrative record, and only official parties can build that record. Party Status is what lets Save Temecula file testimony, cross-examine SDG&E's experts, and put the community's own evidence in front of the Commission — rather than watching from the sidelines while others argue for us.
That takes attorneys who practice before the CPUC and the technical experts who can challenge SDG&E's engineering, need, and route claims on their own terms. Save Temecula needs to raise $100,000 to retain them and secure that seat at the table. Our FAQ explains why an independent community party matters even with the City of Temecula already engaged.
